We met at a good friends wedding - Jane's UCLA college housemate was marrying Spencer's mate from Melbourne Uni. Spencer had flown in from Toronto and Jane from San Francisco. We were the tallest (and most handsome) people on the dance floor, with 110% gangly limbs in our dance moves. It was a great match from the start.

2 weeks later, Spencer moved to Arizona for work and had his first weekend visit to Jane in San Francisco. Long distance courting had officially begun!

As March rolled around, Jane's things were packed up or sold, her rent notice handed in and goodbyes given. Spencer had cleared out space in his dresser and set up reservations. Then COVID took a giant dump on our plans (and hearts) shutting down Canadian borders to all travellers, including the southern neighbours. The move to Toronto would have to be delayed (but only like a month, right? Because this thing will totally blow over and life will be back to normal by the end of summer).

We spent the weekend together, expecting to go back to our own countries when Spencer threw out the old "well if I'm ever in San Fran we should hang out". Jane smiled and brushed this off as a 'weekend romance courtesy', only to be standing in the security line at the Melbourne airport and receiving a text saying "Flights booked for two weeks out".

By the end of our road trip were closer than siamese twins. While our time in the states was coming to an end, we had one last adventure in store.
Bucking convention and in staying true to our styles, we decided on a mutual engagement proposal. Jane put together a scavenger hunt through Balboa Park in San Diego, giving Spencer clues to lead him to the Rose Garden. Once there, Spencer led Jane to a view and a surprise Spanish Jazz Guitarist to accompany his funny retelling of our their relationship & singing Over the Rainbow.
